Recently, the EPFO has implemented rules intended to ease the linking of Aadhaar with UAN. When the employee name, gender, and date of birth exactly correspond on the Aadhaar and UAN records, the employer is able to carry out seeding through the KYC option on the employer portal. This eliminates the employee’s waiting time for EPFO’s approval, thereby reducing the delay and leading to faster processing.
Corrections Through Joint Declaration
In case of mismatch or error in Aadhaar and UAN details, the Joint Declaration (JD) method may be adopted:
- Employer-assisted corrections: Employers may submit an online JD request to correct personal details like name, gender, or date of birth, or to fix a wrong Aadhaar number that was seeded.
- For inactive employers: If the employer can’t be traced, or if the company has ceased to function, the employees may submit a physical JD form at the respective local office of the EPFO. Post verification, officials upload the same and initiate the correction.
- This change offers more flexibility to employees who were frequently in trouble whenever an employer remained unresponsive.
Aadhaar Linking Via UMANG App
EPFO has enabled employees to self-service the linking of their Aadhaar through the UMANG mobile application. The steps to complete this procedure are as follows:
- Open the UMANG app and log in.
- Go to EPFO → e-KYC Services → Aadhaar Seeding.
- Enter UAN and authenticate with OTP.
- Enter Aadhaar details and verify using OTP on the registered Aadhaar-linked mobile.
- Upon verification, Aadhaar is linked to UAN without needing any intervention from the employer.
Benefits Of The New Rules
New life imparted to various PF-related services such as withdrawal, transfer, and claim settlement to ease and expedite these processes. It will also ease processes in more sensitive situations such as minor claim settlement, wherein the benefits may be credited directly to the bank account of the minor without the need for a guardianship certificate.
Overall felt new rules of linking the Aadhaar-UAN shall reduce much-paper work, unnecessary delays, and instant PF availability to an employee upon need.
