New Gratuity Rule 2025: The Union Government recently came out with a clarification on a very important change in gratuity eligibility for employees working under the National Pension System. Employees who have worked earlier in autonomous bodies can now count their experience under gratuity, provided they fully switch to a central government post with due authorization. In this manner, the previous sacrifices that an employee had put in for the autonomous institution will not go unrecognized.
What Employees Must Do To Qualify
On account of the said update, employees must:
- Be NPS-covered and should be going from an autonomous body to central government with due permissions and proper resignation.
- Apply for the recognition of prior service during the appointment process.
- It is only afterward that the time spent in the previous job in an autonomous body will be counted toward gratuity under central government rules. If they do not go through this formal route, it will never be recognized.
What It Means To The Employees
This provision brings clarity and comfort to many long-standing employees who were excluded earlier when they rendered service to autonomous institutions. As long as the correct processes were followed, now all eligible service is taken into account for gratuity. Hence, it is now up to the employee to understand all the conditions fully and ensure their observance to receive such benefits.
Why The Clarification Matters
Basic gratification accrues much importance on the sanctioned period of service. By confirming that period of service in NPS-enabled autonomous bodies can count, the rule will protect employees from being deprived on some technical grounds. It will allay fears for their financial well-being and prompt them to remain compliant with the transfer procedures.
